Demon Trappers (2) - Soul Thief / Forbidden by Jana Oliver

And part two of four of the Demon Trappers, Soul Thief / Forbidden (in German Seelenraub, in French Devil City - Le Voleur d'âmes). I read it in German where it contained 498 pages. Originally published 2011.

Just when Riley thought life couldn't get worse... Beck still tries to get her out of Atlanta, someone re-animated her father, and Simon gets more and more weird. Riley risked so much to save him - she promised Heaven to save the world - and now he seems to think Riley was part of the massacre. Now the Demon Hunters are after her! The only good thing in her life is this fascinating man who follows her, who protects her: the freelancer Ori. But he's more than he seems to be.

The second part of the series is as good as the first. I like it how the necromant world is presented. Mort is gorgeous. Simon is done very, very well, too. Really, he gains depth and is now more than this saintly blond boy than before. I'm sorry for his girlfriend, but... hey, she got a freebie shower. With holy water. Can't hurt, can it? What I don't like is how Beck never explains anything and risks loosing Riley. It is still very realistic, but it would make things a lot easier between them! Well, apparently easy is too mainstream for them both. Apart from that, Beck is a very fascinating character: What he does for Riley, how determined he can be and how much he tries to do what Paul would want. He's clearly a diamond. A rough diamond, but hey, all diamonds start rough, don't they?

And I hated Ori from his first description. Looks like I wasn't THAT wrong, was I? I'm just glad Riley realised something was up before she went down the road completely.

As you can see, the characters deserve a star, as well as the style, the plot and the ideas.
