Companions Quartet (2) - The Gorgon's Gaze by Julia Golding
And book two! The Gorgon's Gaze (in German Der Blick der Gorgone) I read it in German where it contained 375 pages. Originally published 2006.
Connie, a proud member of the club for saving fantastic creatures, is the only one on this planet who can communicate with all mystic creatures. Unfortunately, that means that the fanatical shapeshifter Kullervo tries to get to her - through Connie's friend, Col. All while Connie's parents ban her to her father's aunt Godiva, who does everything to keep Connie from the Companion's Quartet... How can she save Col and how can she protect her new pet, a golden dragon who follows her everywhere?
I like it, it has the same quality as the first! I love Angrath. She's like a cat. Okay, a flying cat. But she's soo cute!
Godiva is a really interesting woman. I'm sorry for her, what she's gone through wasn't easy. But she's a little fanatical. It's nice she finally learned again what's important. Hugh is one of my favourite characters in the series. He's really nice – would have been a good grandfather.
As for the library of the Companion's Quartet? Really. Cool. I want that, too.
Kullervo himself is fascinating as well. How he plays with Connie, I mean. If he wasn't so fanatic and, well, evil, he' be serious fun.
Col's mother... well, she's got something, hasn't she? God, poor boy! You wouldn't wish that woman to your worst enemy. Even though she does make herself, that's true.
Evelyn and Col's father? Seriously? Wouldn't have dreamt of it. But hey, the two do fit together. In a very weird way. Still. Not bad!
I give it a star for the ideas, the characters, the adequacy & tenseness and the content.
