Nephilim Rising - Unchained by J. Lynn
A book by Jennifer L. Armentrout /J. Lynn (I know, another one, but hell, she's good!). Not translated. A read it as an English kindle - meaning I have no idea how many pages. Originally published 2013. Addressee: Boys and girls, 18+ (have to like erotic books).
Lily is a Nephilim, meaning she hunts the bad guys (preferably before they corrupt and kill innocents). And she's a very good one as well. She's smart, kick-ass... and stalked by two fallen angels. Who she simply can't kill. One wants to kill her and the other... well, Julian saves her life – in order to gain her trust, to corrupt her! All the while, a new Nephilim is discovered under strange conditions and the Nephilim have a leak... When Lily can't resist Julian any more, she's suspect Nr. One.
The focus in this book lies on sex. This is the first and probably last erotic book I'll read. And I did it because of the author and to try it out once. It's not that bad, erotic books. But what they do... it's sometimes pretty disturbing. This stuff has to hurt, doesn't it?
However. If you like sex scenes, you'd probably wouldn't find it disturbing.
The characters are nicely done. Lily reminds me a little of Alex of the Covenant. Both are kick-ass, have problems with living without their “jobs”, can't stay away from those they can't have and are stronger than good for them. But there are a few things that are different. Lily has a problem with admitting what she wants (and whom). So not Alex. Who is, by the way, more funny than Lily and hasn't everyone wrapped around her little finger. But they are close. Too close.
Julian on the other hand is neither Aiden nor Seth, for that matter. I rather like him – even though he kind of has a problem with privateness. And with keeping his hands and other body parts from Lily. But apart from that, he's a good person, really. And it's funny how he lets everything lie for Lily.
Michael is an interesting character. I like him. He's loyal and has a good heart.
Luke was obvious. Seriously.
Bal is creepy.
And there is a mistake in the book: If Nathaniel is first generation, why didn't he use his wonderful super-powers in the fight in the end? That doesn't make sense!
In the end, I give it stars for style and ideas. I can not give stars for content, nor for characters. The sidekicks and Julian were very well done, but Lily wasn't. She's far too close to Alex, this wrecks the book.
