Mortal Instruments (3) - City of Glass by Cassandra Clare

At first, this should have been the last part of TMI-Series, but there are still three parts to continue the great tale of Clary and Jace. Here's City of Glass, (in German City of Glass, French La cité de verre) which I read in German, where it had 717 pages. Originally published 2009.

Clary’s father threats to destroy the Nephilim – and Alicante, their capital city, with it. The one thing he still needs is Raziel’s mirror… but no one will listen to Clary and her friends! With Sebastian, the Lightwood’s dear friend, she travels through Idris, while Luke tries to unite the Downworldlers… Meanwhile, Simon falls into the wrong hands. And it’s time for Clary and Jace to find out about Valentine's mistakes and their own existences...

Okay, a little spoiler here - it's not the last part. the plot line changes a little afterwards, but it's not the last part - thank god! However, everyone who doesn't know this book might ask - who the heck is the black-haired boy on the cover? Jace is a blonde! I know I did. But don't worry, this isn't supposed to be Jace.

To the book itself: I really adore it! It takes your breath away from the very first page to the very last and longer, like the rest of the Mortal Instruments.

It is funny, exciting and the end is so beautiful! If this really would have been the ending of the series, I'd be sad it was over but I'd be glad the ending was so fantastic.

Next to Jace' and Clary's perspectives, we have some chapters by Simon and Alec as well.

First of all, to Jace. I’m so so sorry for him. Seriously. Even though it was simply stupidity that made him believe this: Every evidence stood against it! Why didn't he simply stop and question his knowledge? And why didn't Clary? Seriously, what do they know?

Spoiler:

An angel told them Valentine used demon blood to make experiences with his son and that he grew up to be a monster. A powerful monster, but a monster, never able to love or be loved. And that he managed – by accident – to make Clary to a more angelic half-angel than other Nephilim.

Look at how much of this fits to Jace. He’s powerful, but his greatest motivation is Clary and he is worthy of love – he is loved and does love and he was raised in society of some kind.

Well, Angel can’t lie. Which means that this is true beyond a doubt.

What else do they have?

Two deceivers tell him that he’ll a) fall in love with the wrong person – which is actually in itself pretty vague – wrong for whom, in what circumstances et cetera – and b) he’s her brother. Well, the fairy queen is known to be as cruel and deceiving as possible and it is kind of possible she talked about siblings in mind or something like that.

Why didn’t he at least think about the possibility of Valentine having lied? It would explain so much, like why he loves his supposedly sister – because she’s not his sister at all.

Her relationship to Jace is so nicely done… “Why didn’t you tell me he was my brother?” and “Jace”. Yeah. That’s just… well, it’s yeah.

As is her relationship to Jocelyn.

The woman is fascinating, by the way, her whole story is. And I like the story of Amatis… she’s so interesting.

Even though I can’t imagine how you could abandon your own brother like that!

Okay, change of subject.

Simon’s story arc is so fascinating – he and Hodge, the new inquisitor, his problems, how Jace nearly gives his life for him, how Izzy helps him and he her and her family. Really.

Izzy is a really fascinating personality, the more you get to know her, the more you like her. She really has a good heart and she fights for what she loves.

As for Sebastian…

Spoiler:

It was so obvious something was off with that guy.

But it’s kind of ironic that Clary had issues with kissing Jace because he was her brother and then kissing her real brother either way.

Anything else? Oh yes, the only thing, that is a little strange is that Clary was named after her grandmother Adele, but later on doesn't know it, even though she saw the headstone. It could be because she was on Lyn-water, so it's not that bad...

In brief:
