Morganville Vampires (9) - Ghost Town by Rachel Caine
And book 9 - Ghost Town (in German Gefährliche Sehnsucht, ville fantôme), I read it, as well as the other TMVs in German, here it had 361 pages. Originally published 2010.
Claire is forced to repair Ada with Myrnin's help or to die. Her part of the new system for controlling the portals and the blockade around the city works... but Myrnin's program has a few disadvantages. Everyone in Morganville loses his /her memories and seems to live in the past, exactly two years before Claire comes to Morganville. When Sam was alive, as well as Shane's Mom, and his little sister. When Michael was alife. More than now, that is. Claire has to repair it, or Morganville will turn on her, the "new" face in town who absolutely knows everything about it. But how can she, if even the master of the machine is against her?
This book was awesome. SPOILER ALERT: The way the people around Claire respond to her after loosing their memories is funny and sad together. And Shane, who is a completely different person than before, talking and treating others is so interesting. I like how his dad changes. And, I have to add I knew since part seven there was something between Oliver and Amelie. I wonder what would have happened to the Collins-family, when the machine would have worked... Would Claire and Shane really be siblings? And what's with Molly, would that be Hannah? Or Eve? The only bad things in this book are, that Grandma Day moved out of the Day house and no one ever said Lisa - her GRANDdaughter - was lost, but now suddenly it is that way. And when did Eve started to work for Oliver again? I thought she'd rather be murdered in sleep! And what is the function of Frederick von Hesse? He shows up one time, and then ever again? Additionally: Oliver has grey hair, not blonde, Claire's MOM wanted her to stay close instead of going to the MIT right away, a vampire can't cross himself, Claire saw Amelie a lot in the church (they met there the first time, for example), in Amelie's bureau there are no windows, Amelie can't know Shane lost his memories and, last but not least, you don't have any kind of equilibrum when your tympanic membrane is damaged through an explosion!
I give this book a star for style, ideas, characters and the last one for the different relationships between characters and the way they change. Minus one for the mistakes.
