Morganville Vampires (8) - Kiss of Death by Rachel Caine

And now to part 8 of the fascinating vampire series - Kiss of Death (in French Le Baiser de la Mort, in German, the language I read it in, Flirt mit der Unsterblichkeit, where it had 282 pages). Originally published 2010.

Michael gets to get out of Morganville for the week-end, together with Eve, Shane and Claire! They are so excited, they don't know what to do first - but their vamp-baby-sitter Oliver does. Before going to the man who wants to publish Micheal's songs, they are visiting another vampire city. But here, nothing is in control and humans as well as vampires are murdering everyone in sight. Good thing Claire discovers her skills in archery.

This part was the funniest of whole TMV! SPOILER ALERT: I love the scene where Claire shows how little she likes guys who are threatening her or her friends... But next to the funny part it is also exciting to read from page one to the very last word! I love it. Unfortunately, there are some mistakes who irritate.

    1. Eve couldn't have known Jase wasn't in Morganville.

    2. And the Goldman-family is totally wrong, as always, Patience was Theo's wife, not his child or grandchild, and Jacob and his sister were the children of his children. The sister didn't have a name before.

    3. Eve works in the UC, not in the Common Grounds.

    4. His name is Dean, not Dan.

    5. Claire doesn't speak Latin.

    6. Eve can were Claire's clothes? Never!

    7. Why does a vampire have a stake that's all silver? He shouldn't even be able to touch it!

    8. When Claire and the others drive with Morley it's twilight. Half an hour later it's afternoon. Wow, I didn't know vampires could travel backwards through time!

    9. Morley's group is not typical for Morganville.

    10. Michael had the illness, but his only symptoms were infertility (not that he ever tried to create new vamps.)

    11. Claire saw vampires whose illness was much worse.

    12. The explanations or Eve's wounds don't fit together.

    13. The football-vamp is there (and dies) two times. Both times for real.

    14. Why does "Patience" has her father's doctor's bag? First, her father has nothing to do with the serum and second Oliver would never have trusted her with something important like that. And why the heck did he take the crystals with him? They do nothing but slow down the illness' progress!

    15. Shane never calls Jason Jase!

    16. Shane was with Claire when Jase stalked them: Jason send Shane to the intensive care unit.

    17. Claire is never strong enough to pull back a bowstring that long.

    18. Claire and Eve are since the drive to Blacke hurt! Badly hurt! And still they run jump, fight etc. without any problems!

But it's so cute how Shane stays for Claire's sake in Morganville. Really, it's totally cute. And I love Linda and her cookies. What do I like most? The woman or the fact that she bakes? Hm... I like Eve's fuss about cars as well. And she drives a hearse. All right.

For all of this I give the book one star for each style, characters, ideas and the last one for the funny parts and the developments of the main characters, which is extra-ordinary in these books, minus one for the mistakes. Sometimes I ask myself if she reads her own books.
