Fallen (3) - Passion by Lauren Kate
And now to part 3/4 - Passion (in German Engelsflammen, in French Passion). I read it in German, where it had 409 pages.
After the scene at her home, Luce decides to take her life into her own hands: Luce stumbles head first through time to meet her previous incarnations and find out, why she always dies. All alone, with no help but the one of the Gargoyle Bill, and followed by serveral parties of pissed-offf angels and nephilim. But not everyone is truly on her side...
Spoiler
I knew from the very first second Bill was evil. Even if he would have said "Hey dude, I'm... äh... Bill, the most evil person you ever saw, whaz up?" it couldn't have been more obvious. Apropos Bill. That guy doesn't make sense. He's in love with her more or less, he adores her. But he a) never took part in her life – not even before she met Daniel, when he really had a chance to get her love, and b) he tries to kill her. Because... because. No reason given. This does make sense, doesn't it? To just want to kill someone you love for the fun of it? The only way how he could gain anything would be to kill Daniel – if he has to become a murder.
Apropos non-existing sense. Daniel says he always moved on before it was clear to others he didn't age. But in Russia, he met Luschka when she was 12. They got together when she was 17, in the same place. So, a) why did no one notice that he doesn't change (in his supposed age 5 years do make a difference) and b): why didn't she die long before that?
Another question: How did Miss Sophia know that Luce wanted to be called Luce, and not Lucinda, or Lucy, or, I don't know, Lu-Lu or anything like that? Luce's lives are so different, she's different, depending on her upbringing. How would she know anything about her?
Plus, how can Daniel really love all her incarnations, if she's always such a different person? Surely he has to be annoyed by some Lucindas, shouldn't he?
Well, apart from that, Luce's lives are very interesting – and sappy – and they give another meaning to "Baby, when you touch me I'm burning!". I'll probably always think of this book when I hear the phrase.
To continue. The rest of the characters are... well, they're kind of okay. I'm sorry for Cam, first let down by Lilith and then by Luce. And in his eternal life, every Lilith he meets hates him (why this is the case? No idea, not explained!) and Luce always chooses Daniel. Wonder why.
It took me by surprise that Daniel's the one to keep Luce alive, in the end. But this is so typical for the book, I mean, seriously, Luce's only living to die in Daniel's arms. That's pathetic.
In brief:
I give this book a star for the ideas. Minus one for content. Sorry.
