Charlotte and Thomas Pitt (8) - Cardington Crescent by Anne Perry

And another part of the astonishing series! Cardington Crescent by Anne Perry (In German: Frühstück um Mitternacht). I read it in German where it contained 329 pages. Originally published 1987.

While Thomas needs all his wits to discover a ruthless murderer, Emily is desperate: George has an affair with his cousin's wife, Sybilla. With whom they are staying in Cardington Crescent! Emily needs to fight for George, but how? What a good thing the family invited Jack Radley, a possible suitor for their their youngest member of the party. Jack, a charming, non-wealthy man with a reputation, adores Emily - and soon she begins the flirt. It seems to work, Emily and George finally make up again in secret. But the next day, Emily wakes up as a widow. The worst: George was murdered and Emily is supposed to take the blame...

This is one of my very favourite parts of the series. I adore Tassie and Jack. I'm actually a little sorry for the latter – good thing, Emily doesn't break his big and noble heart for good. Tassie herself is an interesting character. I like that she finds her luck in the priest-to-be – and in mundane work. It's described very well, especially how Charlotte first fears her.

I pity William and Sybilla. Especially William. With that father... he's well described (the father I mean) but he's such an ass... And poor dog.

And Charlotte really is gorgeous! It's so well done how she takes care of her sister. And how she plays the father.

There' just one little mistake: Emily had nothing to do with the case of the Ressurection Row.  The crime that Thomas tries to solve first is gross – but very nicely done (I mean the author's work, not the characters'). Interesting what people do to get money. Interesting and really, really sad.

So... stars for characters, ideas, plot and style.
