Charlotte and Thomas Pitt (5) - Rutland Place by Anne Perry

A crime of its own... Rutland Place by Anne Perry (in German Rutland Place) I read it in German where it contained 257 pages. Originally published 1983.

Caroline Ellison is panicked. She lost her necklace, a medallion with a picture of a man. A man, that is not only NOT her husband, but also a well-known guest on Rutland Place, called Paul Alaric. Caroline can neither shake off the idea it was stolen, nor the feeling of being watched by unfriendly eyes. Charlotte is called, but just after she visits her mother, Caroline's neighbour was murdered. What happens at Rutland Place, and what does Caroline's relationship to Mr Alaric mean? Emliy and Charlotte have to use all their wits to help Thomas - and rescue their parents' marriage.

Very nice. A crime one wouldn't suspect in that kind of a society, but still not really uncommon. The poor sister! However, I like the Charringtons. And Theodora and her daughter. Champagne Charlie... Hi hi, it's so funny how Charlotte gets drunk for the first – and probably the last – time in her life. Poor Thomas! He must have gotten a heart-attack. But I'm glad for the Doctor.

I'm glad, Alaric is back. I liked him. And I'm kind of sorry for him, for everything. He just wants to be nice and everyone misinterprets that! I have sympathy with Caroline as well. She behaves absolutely stupid and like a teenager – but then, I'm a teenager to, so I can not really judge – but I guess this kind of love does that to people. It's good, Edward realises his mistake. It really is his own fault.

This new neighbourhood of the Ellison's is really interesting, even more than the last!

I liked this book ver much. The characters make sense, as does the content. The ideas are quiet nice as well. Style is as usual.

So... stars for characters, style, ideas and content.
