Shadow Falls Camp (2) - Awake at Dawn by C. C. Hunter
And now to part 2/5 of the Shadow Falls Camp - Awake at Dawn (in German Erwacht im Morgengrauen) I read it in German, there it had 516 pages. Originally published in 2011.
Kylie isn't really used to being different but she adapts, which is necessary since she even stands out even in a camp of supernatural teenagers. Her ghosts, even bloody ones, doesn't frighten her as much as before and she can concentrate on her problems with her nearly-boyfriend Derek and the werewolf Lucas. Who is somewhere else, but that doesn't make it easier for her to find out, whom she likes most. But fortuna doesn't want her to have a little peace - she finds herself stalked by a red-haired murderer...
The second part of Shadow Falls is as thrilling as the first, it is an emotional rush and keeps your attention from the first to the last page. I really like it!
Derek and later on Lucas are so cute! Even though Derek's overreacting and doing the exactly wrong thing with Kylie, his reaction made very much sense. And could have been kind of cute, if it hadn't hurt Kylie that much. I like the werewolf more than the half-fey. I can't exactly say, why. But Lucas is better for her than Derek.
This Tom Selleck thing was so damn well done! I nearly lay rolling on the floor (with empathise on nearly. I sat in my Math course when I first read this scene. No matter how relaxed my teacher is, I don't think he'd have liked that).
It's nicely done how Kylie discovers her powers. My favourite, is of course the dream-thing (or how it's called in English). No surprised Lucas liked that! But the other powers are fascinating as well. It's cool her relationship to Sara recovered a little.
Her parent's relationship, on the other hand... my my. How can a father do that to his daughter? Even if they are not related in blood, he raised her, he loves her and she him. How could he have done that to her? No wonder she flipped. But it's great how she tells him exactly what she thinks of him. In front of everyone, but hey, no one's perfect!
As for Mario and Red... they're creepy.
Della and Miranda are both so cool. And I'm all team Miranda&Perry ;) ! And Holiday and Burnett are funny...
I give this book stars for characters, plot, ideas and style.
